KMPA CONVENTION 2018 – APRIL 5-8

Warm spring weather welcomed golfers to the pre-convention golf tournament held at Stagg Hills Golf Course, Manhattan, on Thursday afternoon. Coordinated by Wayne Beckman, nine golfers enjoyed an afternoon of fun competition.
Despite a Friday morning weather change of rain and occasional snow, the 41st Midwest Processed Meat Workshop hosted by KSU Meat Science Department had a good turnout. Attendees were able to learn helpful techniques from experienced, award winning meat processors and receive valuable information from the KSU faculty.
The 20018 KMPA Convention started off Friday evening with the opening of the Trade Show. Fourteen suppliers displayed their equipment and supplies and answered questions from plant operators. Our organization is very fortunate to be able to offer this opportunity to connect on a personal level with the people they deal with throughout the year. These supplier/members provide a wealth of knowledge that is priceless. Throughout the evening guests were able to enjoy snacks and beverages, register for prizes at supplier booths, and participate in a dart contest for chances on a gun raffle fund raiser for the KSU Scholarship. Following the Trade Show, a new event “Card Bingo” was played with cash prizes being won by participants. Closing out the first day’s activities, a hospitality room was available for anyone wanting to meet with fellow processors and catch up on the day’s events.
Saturday brought program presentations by KMPA members, AAMP representative Nelson Gaydos, Nebraska Meat Processors guests, and KSU faculty. The Trade Show was again open for those wanting to continue visiting suppliers, and entries in the Cured Meat show were judged. The Saturday evening banquet featured the introduction of new Board Members, a silent and live auction for the Scholarship Fund, award presentations, and grand prize drawings. At the banquet’s conclusion, guests could socialize at the President’s Celebratory Reception.
A worship session, with inspirational message, was available before convention adjournment on Sunday morning
